Law firm elects leadership

A local law firm has named a new group of leaders.

Grand Rapids-based Smith Haughey Rice & Roegge said this week it elected its new CEO, two new board members and a new shareholder.

Matthew Wikander was elected as the firm’s CEO.

Kristen Guinn and D. Adam Tountas were elected as members of the board, which includes returning members Cheryl Chandler, Kevin Even, E. Thomas McCarthy and Jason Sebolt.

Jeffrey Dornbos was also appointed as a shareholder.

“Our firm has historically been known as a litigation firm,” Wikander said. “Today we have some of the finest trial lawyers and litigators in the state, and our success rate throughout Michigan’s courtrooms speaks for itself.

“I am committed to doubling down on our litigation roots and strategically growing in our most important litigation sub-specialties. Doing so will buttress the foundation of this firm for generations to come.”

The firm's new CEO, Wikander began his career with Smith Haughey as a summer associate in 2003 and became a full-time associate in 2004. He was elected a shareholder in 2010 and appointed to the firm’s board in 2011.

Wikander has developed a litigation practice that involves personal injury, wrongful death, employment and commercial matters.

He is affiliated with the Grand Rapids Bar Association, State Bar of Michigan, American Bar Association, Lawyer Pilots Bar Association and other organizations.

He holds a B.A. from the University of Michigan and a J.D. from Wayne State University.

Kristen Guinn

A new board member, Guinn is a trial attorney at the Grand Rapids office.

Guinn has represented business owners, corporations, health care providers, landlords, attorneys and professionals in a variety of matters involving defense claims, such as professional malpractice, professional liability, contract disputes, employment, general liability and no-fault law.

She is affiliated with the Grand Rapids Bar Association, State Bar of Michigan, Federal Bar Association, Michigan Defense Trial Counsel and Grand Rapids Young Professionals.

She holds a B.A. from Butler University and a J.D. from Suffolk University Law School.

D. Adam Tountas

A new board member, Tountas specializes in commercial and employment litigation at the Grand Rapids office.

Tountas represents retailers, manufacturers, entrepreneurs, small and mid-market business owners and large financial institutions in cases that involve contract disputes, violations of fiduciary duty, wrongful termination, non-compete agreements, age discrimination and gender discrimination.

He is affiliated with the Grand Rapids Bar Association, State Bar of Michigan, Michigan Defense Trial Counsel, American Society of Legal Advocates and Defense Research Institute.

He is a graduate of Michigan State University and Wayne State University Law School.

Jeffrey Dornbos

Dornbos, a new shareholder, is a trial attorney who practices at the firm’s Grand Rapids and Holland offices.

Dornbos focuses his practice on commercial, employment, appellate litigation and professional liability defense.

He holds a B.S. from Calvin College, a master of international development administration from Western Michigan University and a J.D. from Case Western Reserve University.
