A Grand Rapids law firm is adding a pair of attorneys.

Miller Johnson has hired Angela Caulley and Alejandra Contreras.

Caulley joined the probate and estate planning group, where she writes documents for estate plans, assists with the probate process and deals with elder law matters such as Medicaid planning. She is working in both the Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo offices.

She is a 2017 graduate of Michigan State University College of Law, where she served as editor of Michigan State Law Review and on the Senior Editorial Board as a senior symposia editor. She also worked as an extern for Judge Curtis J. Bell in the Kalamazoo County Probate Court.

Caulley received bachelor’s degrees in both mathematics and psychology from Grand Valley State University and taught math at St. Phillip Catholic Central High School in Battle Creek before enrolling in law school.

Contreras joins the litigation practice in the Grand Rapids office. She is working on class action and consumer defense, commercial litigation, insurance policyholder counseling and recovery, professional liability, and white collar crimes and investigations.

She previously worked at Cadwalader Wicksham and Taft LLP in New York with the commercial litigation group.

Contreras is a graduate of New York University School of Law, where she was a staff member on the Journal of Legislation and Public Policy. Contreras, who is from Mexico, also volunteered with an NYU immigrant rights project to interview immigrant detainees at detention centers and screen them for viable immigration claims. She also was active in NYU’s Latino Law Students Association.

Contreras is on the board of First Steps, an organization dedicated to early childhood services in Kent County, and also volunteers with the American Civil Liberties Union of Michigan.

She earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Rochester.
