A local law firm has added a pair of attorneys and a staff member to one of its offices in the region.
Grand Rapids-based Smith Haughey Rice & Roegge said this month it bolstered its Muskegon office by adding of-counsel attorneys Gary Britton and David Bossenbroek and legal assistant Tabitha Krawczyk.
After working at the firm Britton & Bossenbroek, the group joined Smith Haughey on Nov. 6.
Britton & Bossenbroek is no longer in operation.
“Gary Britton and I had been looking for some time for a firm with which to associate and integrate our practices,” Bossenbroek said. “We think Smith Haughey is the ideal fit. It is a long-established and well-respected West Michigan firm, which both of us have dealt with for many years. It will expand our ability to serve our clients and provide them additional resources.”
Smith Haughey's Muskegon office, at 900 Third St., now has five attorneys.
Kevin Even, a Smith Haughey managing partner in Muskegon, said Bossenbroek and Britton were hired because of their expertise.
“Dave Bossenbroek and Gary Britton were hired primarily because they are excellent attorneys with a wealth of experience in many areas of the law, which of course, would be an asset to any law firm,” Even said.
While working as an attorney for 35 years, Smith Haughey said Britton has handled between 700 and 1,000 divorce and custody cases in West Michigan and Oakland County. He has handled cases ranging from international child abduction to marital estates. Britton has also provided legal assistance to at least 17 Michigan school districts, Muskegon Community College and other public and private sector clients.
Bossenbroek has more than 40 years of experience in municipal law, real estate law, business law and litigation. He spent several years in the prosecuting attorney’s office in Muskegon County and then began to grow his own practice in Muskegon.
“Both of them will help bridge the gap between Grand Rapids, Holland and Muskegon, giving our law firm the ability to offer services to our clients in West Michigan and along the lakeshore in an efficient and cost-effective way,” Even said.
