A startup leadership consulting firm has formally unveiled its new downtown office.

Become Unmistakable recently hosted a grand opening for its 6,000-square-foot space in Grand Rapids, at 100 Grandville Ave. SW. It moved in this winter.

The firm was previously located at the Holland base of Elzinga & Volkers, or E&V, a general contractor.

Become Unmistakable was founded last May by Mike Novakoski, president and CEO of E&V, John Parker, VP of project development at E&V, and Rob Dwortz, former president and CEO of The Bank of Holland.

The space

The first floor of the downtown office features marketing space, a training room and flex space for E&V employees.

On the second floor is “The Hub,” a training and collaboration space, as well as space dedicated to E&V when it hosts meetings, entertains clients or visits projects in Grand Rapids.

The office is designed to also support E&V’s continued work in the local market.

“We’re finding more and more that we’re getting contracted for Grand Rapids area projects, and so we wanted a space where we could meet with ownership,” said Jill Monte, marketing coordinator, E&V.

Leadership platform

Become Unmistakable utilizes uMap, its online management platform, to connect both “left-brain,” or analytic thinking, and “right-brain,” or creative thinking, among leaders and employees.

E&V created an offline version of the uMap tool in 2013 to help engage and connect employees via printouts customized for each person, the Business Journal previously reported. Become Unmistakable later decided to take the idea and convert it into a more user-friendly online platform.

Become Unmistakable has had opportunities to speak to companies in Canada, South Africa and the United Arab Emirates about its leadership concept, Dwortz said.

“Software really enables our leadership approach, which we call ‘Lead With Connection,’” Dwortz said. “That is something that’s become part of our brand.”
