After 52 years, a family owned auto shop is finally closing its doors.

Sevigny Automotive in Wayland will be auctioning off its remaining assets tomorrow through Repocast.com, an online auction affiliate of Byron Center-based Miedema Asset Management Group.

“It was just hard for them to compete with chain auto parts stores,” said Duane Mingerink, president of Repocast.com. “It was pretty difficult for them. Everybody in the community knew them.”

The auction itself will feature 177 items, which include auto tools, shelving, hoists, air compressors and more. All items will be sold to the highest bidder with no minimums and no reserves.

Mingerink said it rarely happens that an online auction doesn’t sell every item.

“If there were, say, 10 items that didn’t get a bid, we’d lot them all together for the next auction,” Mingerink said. “We start the bidding low enough that somebody will bid. Basically, it’s so rare, you never have to do it.”

The online auction will run tomorrow from 8 a.m.-6:30 p.m.

A preview of the auction items will be today, from 8 a.m.-5 p.m., at Miedema Asset Management Group’s Byron Center headquarters, at 601 Gordon Industrial Ct. SW.
