Two collegiate golfers have qualified for a local LPGA tournament being played later this month.

University of Michigan’s Cat Peters and Northwestern University’s Kaitlin Park qualified for the Meijer LPGA Classic during the Meijer LPGA Collegiate Invitational last month at Blythefield Country Club in Belmont, just north of Grand Rapids.

The Meijer LPGA Classic, presented by Kraft, is a four-day tournament held July 23-26 at Blythefield Country Club.

Top-three golfers

Peters and Park will fill two sponsor exemption spots, after shooting a 70 and 72 during the 18-hole qualifying tournament.

There were 33 collegiate golfers from West Michigan and Big Ten conference schools.

“Every player woke up today and wanted to be that top two,” Park said. “I knew I needed to keep my game consistent, have confidence and play the best I could.

“I plan to pursue golf after college, and this is an opportunity to experience what it is like to compete at the highest level of women’s golf.”

Three golfers finished third, shooting a one-over-par 73, including Michigan State University’s Sarah Burnham.
