A local mall is planning a $100-million project.

Woodland Mall’s owner, Philadelphia-based PREIT, is planning the construction project for the property in Kentwood, at 3195 28th St. SE, according to documents at PREIT’s website.

The project is expected to be completed by 2019, with initial steps to clean up the site once Sears closes this month or in early April, according to Lyndsey Hicks, marketing director, Woodland Mall.

“It’s an overall transformation to set ourselves apart in the market,” Hicks said. “With Rivertown, Breton Village and Tanger, there are lots of options out there. We’re working to be a destination shopping center.”

Hicks said construction bids for the project are still outstanding.

The project

With Sears closing, Woodland Mall has an anchor tenant to replace.

Demolition of the anchor space where the 313,000-square-foot Sears is located was already announced, as was the space’s main replacement, a 90,000-square-foot Von Maur department store.

Von Maur is expected to open in 2019.

Among the other highlights included in the project are a 60,000-square-foot space and 40,000 square feet of "enclosed small shop space."

PREIT also expects to add 30,000 square feet for casual dining.

Hicks said all together, Woodland Mall will likely add another junior anchor, 10 to 15 retailers and five to six restaurants.

Woodland Mall will also likely re-pave its parking lots this summer and refresh the exteriors of Macy’s and JCPenney.

Hicks also said some current retailers are making investments and expanding their presences in the mall.
