A local maker of “intelligent” machines has acquired a Michigan provider of engineering services.

Grand Rapids Township-based Burke Porter Group, or BPG, said this week it acquired Metamora-based WinterPark Engineering.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“WinterPark’s subject matter expertise with on-board diagnostics and extensive industry knowledge blend well with our testing instrumentation and BPG’s long-term growth goals,” said David DeBoer, CEO, BPG. “This acquisition expands our services offering in diagnostic testing and emissions controls, supporting a growing base of customers dealing with complex regulatory compliance requirements.”

The acquisition — which comes on the heels of a strategic consulting partnership the two companies signed in May — provides expanded technology complementary to BPG’s emissions-testing instruments.

WinterPark’s relationships with regulatory agencies, combined with BPG’s direct knowledge and industry-recognized vehicle test systems will allow for greater support to its existing and future customers, the companies said.

The agreement provides for existing management continuity over WinterPark’s business activities with no change in day-to-day business or contacts.

Mark Frank will remain president of WinterPark Engineering.

With more than 75 years of combined automotive industry experience, BPG and WinterPark have completed projects for leading automotive companies around the globe, including Fiat Chrysler, Nissan and Hyundai in North America, Europe and Asia.
