An alloy manufacturer is moving its Silicon Valley headquarters to the area.

Sunnyvale, California-based Arcanum Alloys plans to invest $693,000 to renovate a space in Kentwood, at 4460 44th St. SE, The Right Place said yesterday.

The Kentwood location will function as its new headquarters and R&D center.

The company also plans to create 25 jobs. The average wage level for the new positions — including R&D scientists — is anticipated to be around $105 per hour, according to the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, or MEDC.

The company uses patented technology to produce 20-ton coils for manufacturing companies.

Arcanum Alloys chose West Michigan to be closer to its production partner, suppliers and manufacturing customers.

Competing locations included Ohio, Tennessee and Indiana.

The company worked with The Right Place, a Grand Rapids-based economic development nonprofit, to access incentives and resources in the state.

MEDC approved a $162,500 Michigan Business Development Program performance-based grant for the company.

The Right Place also connected the company to West Michigan Works! for workforce recruitment and training resources.

Founded in 2011, the company has scaled from producing square-inch panels in its lab to producing 20-ton coils for some of the “world’s most well-known manufacturing companies.”
