A pair of longtime manufacturers in the area are now one.

Grand Rapids-based Gill Holding Company officially said today that it has acquired GR Spring & Stamping in Grand Rapids.

The planned acquisition was first reported on last month.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The combined company globally employs more than 1,500 at facilities in Michigan, Kentucky, Georgia, Mexico, India, China, South Korea and Europe.

The transaction strengthens Gill Industries' position as a full-service supplier of engineered mechanical assemblies to the automotive, furniture and multi-use vehicle industries.

GR Spring & Stamping, founded in 1960, is a custom maker of metal stampings and assemblies, serving the automotive, furniture, medical and electronic industries.

"Committed" to area

"By acquiring GR Spring & Stamping, we are able to diversify our customer base to include additional OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers, enhance our product offerings and leverage our shared operational and technical expertise," said Gill Industries CEO Richard Perreault. "The combination strengthens the competitive position and long-term future of two Grand Rapids companies. Both companies have been part of the community for 50 years, and we remain committed to it."

Jim Zawacki, CEO of GR Spring & Stamping, said that all employees will retain their positions under the acquisition.

“All the employees will come out good, because Gill has a similar culture as GRSS and good people,” Zawacki said.

He added his appreciation for all of the GR Spring employees, saying that they are what has made the company over the years.

Retirement

Zawacki is retiring from the manufacturing industry after 54 years.

He noted that with six kids, 20 grandkids and a love of travel, he will have plenty to keep him busy.
