A West Michigan manufacturing group has acquired a local metal fabrication company.

Byron Center-based TG Manufacturing, or TGM, acquired Grand Rapids-based Turnkey Fabrication, or Turnkey, according to TGM last week.

Rich Achtenberg, CEO of TGM, said Turnkey will become a division of TGM’s Craft Steel portfolio company in Byron Center.

Turnkey’s operations will continue at its existing 55,000-square-foot facility in Grand Rapids, at 739 Cottage Grove St. SE.

“Turnkey will assist us in expanding both capacity and markets of our metal fabrication division,” Achtenberg said. “The synergies of a Craft Steel-Turnkey combination will allow for a more responsive and rapid turnaround to meet customer demands. Our continued drive toward vertical process integration is greatly enhanced with this acquisition.”

Les Onan, CEO of Turnkey, said the acquisition “broadens the process capabilities for both companies.”

“Turnkey Fabrication will focus on its integration and assembly of electrical gaming products and outsource its fabrication to TGM,” Onan said.

“The seamless partnership of the two companies will allow TGM to serve customers with a broader assembly and integration capability for future growth, in addition to its proven metal fabrication capabilities.”

The companies’ management teams are working together to integrate Turnkey’s operations and employees into the TGM/Craft Steel operation.

Turnkey’s current single-shift operation will be expanded to three shifts during the next few weeks to support “new and existing capacity requirements.”

“The move from one shift to three shifts will allow the joint operations to manage existing Turnkey Fabrication business, as well as TGM’s growth in several sectors,” said Kevin Kyle, COO, TGM.
