A longtime family-owned container and packaging company on the lakeshore was acquired by an out-of-state paper mill and packaging joint venture.
Holland-based Shoreline Container said it was acquired last week by Ontario, California-based New-Indy Containerboard LLC, a joint venture of Foxborough, Massachusetts-based The Kraft Group and Indianapolis-based Schwarz Partners.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
With roots dating back over 100 years, the Patterson family-owned Shoreline Container for the past 58 years.
President and CEO Bruce Patterson and his wife Jane purchased principal ownership of the company in 2006 and previously served as co-owners beginning in 1985.
“For nearly six decades, our family has built Shoreline Container into the company it is today by creating excellent products, providing first-class customer service, instilling a positive workplace culture and giving back to the community,” the Pattersons said.
“When we began the process of looking for a buyer 18 months ago, our highest priority was to find someone who shared those values and would continue to serve our clients, employees and community with the same professionalism and care our family has delivered for generations. We are delighted to have found that in New-Indy, a company also built on family values and customer service, and we believe the future of Shoreline Container is in great hands.”
New-Indy will retain and continue to operate the Shoreline Container facilities in Holland and Zeeland.
Shoreline’s current management team will remain in place, and Bob Zuker, COO of Shoreline, will oversee the transition and optimization of both plants.
“We are honored and excited to carry on the Shoreline brand through this acquisition,” said Richard Hartman, COO of New-Indy. “Bruce and Jane Patterson have set a standard of excellence both through their operations and in the community. We are grateful for the opportunity to continue serving Shoreline customers and the West Michigan region with the highest-caliber raw materials, finished product and service experience.”
Founded over 100 years ago, Shoreline Container designs and produces custom container, packaging, paperboard and returnables solutions.
Its two facilities comprise 400,000 square feet of space, and the company has almost 250 employees.
Formed in 2012 as a joint venture of the Kraft Group and Schwarz Partners, two family-owned companies with long histories in paper and packaging, New-Indy operates three recycled paper mills, one kraft pulp and paper mill and 14 packaging facilities throughout the U.S.
