A food packaging solutions provider has rolled out a sustainable product line called Recycleware Containers.

Fabri-Kal, a Kalamazoo-based thermoforming manufacturer said Tuesday it is now offering Recycleware Containers, a line of deli, grab-and-go and dessert containers for foodservice providers that are recyclable and made in the U.S. with a minimum of 20%-50% post-consumer recycled (PCR) PET material.

With the introduction of this new brand, Fabri-Kal said it is “reinforcing its commitment to furthering a circular economy by giving recycled plastics a second useful life and keeping them out of the environment.”

“Recycleware allows us to do more while consuming (fewer) raw materials,” said Mike Roeder, president and COO, Fabri-Kal. “Our foodservice packaging made from post-consumer recycled PET bottles enables operators to show their commitment to the environment while displaying products in Recycleware Containers. By using Recycleware Containers, your customers will understand that you are as committed to the future as they are.”

Recycleware Containers are crystal-clear, durable and leak resistant, Fabri-Kal said. The product line is geared toward use in supermarkets, convenience stores and commercial foodservice venues such as educational institutions and sports arenas.

The Recycleware product family

  • On-the-go boxes made with a minimum of 50% PCR PET, ideal for grab-and-go snacks and food presentations surrounding deli counters. These containers are available with stackable lids and fit well on shelves or in cold cases, and are good for pairing multiple food combinations.
  • Round deli containers made with a minimum of 50% PCR PET and “brilliantly clear,” designed to help products shine. With one lid that fits most sizes, these containers can be custom printed, providing branding opportunities. They are durable, leak-resistant and suitable for a variety of operations.
  • Square deli containers made with a minimum of 50% PCR PET. These containers maximize shelf space and are good for small delis and shelf displays; are crystal-clear; available in five sizes with a choice of two leak-resistant lids; and designed for elevating shelf appeal and displaying products in retail environments.
  • Dessert containers made with a minimum of 20% PCR PET. These single serve, on-the-go containers are designed to look distinctive and stylish and enhance the presentation of desserts and confections. Custom printing is available to feature customers’ brands.

Fabri-Kal is a member of How2Recycle, a standardized labeling system that communicates recycling instructions to customers. The product packaging for all Recycleware Containers will display How2Recycle labels.

“The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency recommends recycling products to keep them out of landfills,” said Emily Ewing, senior manager, marketing and sustainability for Fabri-Kal. “When operators use Recycleware Containers made with post-consumer recycled materials, it reduces both fossil fuel-based material usage and greenhouse gas generation.”

Fabri-Kal also offers a line of sustainable Greenware products, made entirely from plants, not petroleum. With the introduction of Recycleware Containers, Fabri-Kal aims to provide another sustainable product offering to foodservice operators who are interested in lowering their environmental impact.
