Gill Industries will hold an online auction this week to sell millions of dollars’ worth of equipment from a Grand Rapids plant it is winding down.

The Grand Rapids-based maker of seating structures and components for the automotive, furniture and off-highway vehicle markets is preparing to hand over its plant at 706 Bond Ave. NW in Grand Rapids to buyer Spectrum Health in July, but first it has to sell the equipment that is still in the facility.

“Since March, we have stopped production in that facility, and now we are getting ready for an equipment auction that was scheduled to be (the last week of) April, but because of the COVID-19 situation, we pushed it out to May 14,” said David DeGraaf, president and CEO of Gill Industries.

“We’re going to do a virtual auction online so we can keep people safe (and) provide them with all the necessary prepackaged information ahead of time with regards to what equipment they’re looking at,” he said.

Southfield-based Maynards will conduct the auction on behalf of Gill at 10 a.m. Thursday at maynards.com/gill-industries.

Gill said it will be selling stamping presses, feed lines, machine tools, mobile equipment, assembly equipment, robots, crib items and much more.
