Haviland Enterprises is producing a broad-spectrum disinfectant that can be used to kill the COVID-19 virus on hard surfaces.

The Grand Rapids-based chemical manufacturer said it is rolling out Rely+On Virkon for hard, nonporous surfaces, particularly in the medical field, laboratories, schools and industrial facilities, through a partnership with Sudbury, England-based LANXESS Corporation.

The product is available to pre-order at havilandusa.com, and the first deliveries from Haviland’s Grand Rapids warehouses will be distributed the week of June 29. The company is only selling directly to Michigan customers but is looking for national distribution partners.

Jim Knape, sales manager for Haviland Products Co., said the product is geared toward Haviland’s existing customers.

“We wanted to provide a disinfectant product that would cover our diverse customer base, which includes the automotive, medical, food and beverage, and other critical industries,” he said.

The dry powdered product is diluted to a 1%-2% liquid disinfectant to be used in spray, sponge or brush applications.

“EPA registration requires a high degree of verification, and the diversity of application options, combined with the product’s effectiveness in killing pathogens, make this the best product we’ve researched,” Knape said.

Haviland has been producing, donating and selling liquid hand sanitizer to customers and organizations throughout the U.S. since April. Rely+On Virkon is an addition designed to give businesses access to a complete portfolio of products needed to maintain clean facilities during this critical time.
