A three-time Big Ten champion coach will speak at the West Michigan Sports Commission luncheon this spring.

Michigan State University football Head Coach Mark Dantonio will be the featured speaker at the 11th-annual West Michigan Sports Commission, or WMSC, Luncheon on May 1.

The luncheon will begin at noon in the International Ballroom of the JW Marriott Grand Rapids.

Dantonio previously attended the WMSC luncheon in 2014 to introduce former Spartan and current Washington Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins, a Holland native.

“We are looking forward to having coach Dantonio return and share his personal story of challenges and successes,” WMSC President Mike Guswiler said.

The WMSC’s annual luncheon serves as a fundraiser for the organization and an update to stakeholders on the state of the organization.

“We want to set a path for future sporting endeavors, yet also celebrate our successes, as we have always done at this annual event,” Guswiler said.

Reservations

Reservations can be made by contacting Natalie Rose at 616-608-1836 or nrose at westmisports dot com.

Single tickets for the luncheon are $90, and the cost for a table of eight is $650.

Dantonio’s background

Entering his 11th season at MSU, Dantonio has compiled an 87-33 record, three conference championships and became the first coach in Big Ten history to notch five 11-win seasons in a six-year span.

Dantonio’s teams have competed in nine post-season bowl games, including an appearance in the 2015 College Football Playoff Semifinal. In 2014, he coached the Spartans to a 24-20 victory over Stanford in their first Rose Bowl appearance since 1988.

Dantonio has twice been named Big Ten Coach of the Year, in 2010 and 2013.
