Grand Valley State University’s advertising team won first place in a district student advertising competition and fourth place in a national competition sponsored by the American Advertising Federation last month.

Over 2,000 college students from 102 college and university teams across the country participated. The AAF divided the colleges into 15 geographical regions based on school location. Teams from the different regions competed either in-person or virtually, starting at the district level.

Grand Valley, in district 6, competed against 18 schools, including Michigan State University, University of Michigan and Western Michigan University. The student team created a marketing plan and then pitched it to advertising professionals at the district, semifinal and national levels.

A panel of judges selected GVSU as the district winners, and the team later went on to the national level, emerging as the fourth-place winner.
