Media group buys newspaper

An out-of-state media company has bought a daily newspaper in the region.

Kentucky-based Paxton Media Group bought the Grand Haven Tribune, as well as the daily Lebanon Democrat in Tennessee from Ohio-based Sandusky Newspaper Group, according to Paxton last week.

The price wasn't disclosed.

Sandusky Newspapers, Inc. CEO David Rau said selling was "difficult," but the publications "could be better served by a larger company with more resources."

He said Paxton is "another family company with a proven legacy and reputation."

The sale also includes weekly newspapers in Mt. Juliet and Hartsville, Tennessee.

Paxton owns newspapers in about 50 communities in the Midwest and South. Sandusky owns two newspapers in Ohio, five in Tennessee and interests in various digital operations.

Rau added that Sandusky is exploring the possibility of selling its Ohio papers.
