A national medical company has unveiled a new opioid treatment center in a Grand Rapids suburb.

MedMark Treatment Centers Kentwood, a BayMark Health Services provider, is open at 5500 South Division Ave.

MedMark said it offers all three FDA-approved medications for opioid use disorder, including methadone, buprenorphine and naltrexone, as well as on-site counseling and recovery support services.

Its services are provided on an outpatient basis.

“The damage caused by the disease of addiction to individuals, families and communities can be reduced by improving access to proven treatment options,” said David K. White, Ph.D., CEO, BayMark Health Services.

“BayMark selected the Kentwood location to fulfill a need for our evidence-based, medication-assisted treatment in the greater Grand Rapids area.”

Grand Rapids-based Orion Construction performed a complete renovation of a previously vacant space for MedMark Treatment Centers' new location in Kentwood.

The 4,109-square-foot build out took about three months to complete and included numerous elements: interior demolition, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, reception desk, treatment rooms, medical offices, bathrooms, family counseling rooms, kitchen and modern security system.

“As we all know, this issue has been prevalent in our community as of late, and this is a very valuable service that BayMark is now providing in Grand Rapids,” said Jason Wheeler, a spokesman for Orion Construction.

According to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, 2,356 Michigan residents died of drug overdoses in 2016. Additionally, overdose deaths in Michigan involving any kind of opioids have increased more than 17 times from 1999 to 2016.

Lewisville, Texas-based BayMark Health Services was formed in 2015 with the merger of BAART Programs and MedMark Treatment Centers.

The company provides medication-assisted treatment to more than 46,000 patients in recovery from opioid addiction.
