A medical device distributor has received the largest contract in its history, a $16-million deal with the feds.

Grand Rapids-based Alliant Healthcare Products, a division of Alliant Enterprises, said this week that the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs has placed an initial $10.9-million order with the company as part of a $16 million, five-year contract.

The order came through the VA's Midwest Healthcare Network, covering nine hospitals in five Midwest states.

Endoscopes

The contract is for high-tech endoscopes used in surgical procedures for veterans.

The technology is based on Olympus' Evis Exera III platform that allows hospitals to integrate endoscopes used for high-definition video, ultrasonic imaging and 3-D surgical images on a single system throughout the entire hospital.

"These are the most advanced diagnostic tools available for veteran care," said Eric Albery, director of marketing, Alliant Healthcare.

The company provides a single point of contact for government buyers who purchase health care products from multiple sources.

Alliant Healthcare sells products from a number of medical device makers, such as Philips, Olympus, Skytron, Belimed, Enovate and more.
