An eye care practice in the region has joined a management services organization.

Great Lakes Management Services Organization, or MSO, said last week it acquired Muskegon-based Shoreline Vision.

Prior to the acquisition, Shoreline was owned by ophthalmologists Dr. Timothy Barron, Dr. Mark Kinziger, Dr. John Oltean, Dr. Kenneth Otto, Dr. Nathan Reed and Dr. Lee Webster.

Oltean said the acquisition was best for Shoreline going forward.

"Every decision Shoreline Vision makes is dependent on improving our patients’ care, whether it is investing in the latest technology, adding sub-specialty physicians or improving our facilities,” Oltean said. “Our latest decision to partner with Great Lakes MSO and the vast resources they can provide is consistent with that theme.

“We are extremely excited to be a part of the organization that has included Grand Rapids Ophthalmology in its portfolio of premier ophthalmology practices in the country. We are certain this will benefit our patients, employees and community for years to come.”

Bill Hughson, CEO of Great Lakes MSO, said Shoreline's "patient-care philosophy and approach to preserving and restoring eyesight are completely consistent with Great Lakes MSO’s vision of improving sight and changing lives.”

Shoreline Vision

Shoreline Vision was founded in 1996 when five ophthalmologists decided to form an alliance to provide vision care to residents in their communities.

Since then, the company has been providing the West Michigan lakeshore communities with eye care services, including comprehensive eye examinations, cornea and retina care and cataract and ocular surgery.

Shoreline Vision has a team of 13 providers and more than 150 eye health professionals in seven locations, including a surgical center dedicated solely to eye surgeries and procedures.

Great Lakes Management Services Organization was formed in 2017 by Sterling Partners, a Chicago-based private equity firm, as a practice management services organization.

It also manages Grand Rapids Ophthalmology and its related retail optical and surgical facility businesses, including Lakeshore Eye in East Grand Rapids and the Walker Surgical Center in Walker.
