A maker of storage systems for the medical industry has acquired a similar out-of-state company.

Marne-based Solaire Medical said today it acquired Allentown, Pennsylvania-based InnerSpace — a maker of specialty storage products for the health care industry — from New Britain, Connecticut-based Stanley Black & Decker.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

InnerSpace was founded in 1995 by Kip Barber, co-owner and co-founder of Solaire, who sold the business to Stanley Black & Decker in 2007 and founded Solaire shortly after with current co-owner, Steve Zautke.

“The acquisition brings the expertise and resources of design, manufacturing, customer service and sales into one organization,” Barber said. “Our customers will benefit from high-quality products, improved service, reduced lead times and the support of long-held knowledge from leaders in the medical storage business. We look forward to growing our business and our product offering.”

Barber said after the acquisition, the InnerSpace location in Allentown closed, and Solaire Medical started shipping out the newly redesigned InnerSpace by Solaire Medical product line from its location in Marne.

Solaire retained about 30 of the InnerSpace employees to work in Marne, including the company’s full leadership team. Barber did not disclose the total number of InnerSpace employees under Stanley’s ownership.

The acquisition more than doubled the size of Solaire Medical, which added 50 employees and 20,000 square feet to its existing 45,000-square-foot facility in Marne to “keep pace with an increased customer base and order load.”

Solaire has about 75 employees.

The InnerSpace by Solaire Medical portfolio is available throughout the U.S.
