The nonprofit Mel Trotter Ministries has named a new CFO.
The downtown shelter, at 225 Commerce Ave. SW, has announced that Steve May, Mel Trotter’s chief financial officer, is retiring after 13 years with Mel Trotter.
May’s position will be filled by Bill Jones, who has stepped in as Mel Trotter’s new CFO and vice president of finance.
Jones has already been in training for about a month and will officially take the office on July 1, the start of Mel Trotter’s fiscal year.
“Although by retiring I will have to leave Mel Trotter, I have full confidence in Bill’s ability to care for Mel Trotter’s finances,” May said. “Bill has a heart for this mission and is more than qualified to take on this role.”
Jones, who spent about 12 years as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Coast Guard, received his bachelor's degree in accounting and management from the University of Maryland University College and his master's in global business from Cornerstone University.
He previously served as a computer applications adjunct professor at Grand Rapids Community College, a principal/franchisee at Liberty Tax Service and the president and CEO of the School of Missionary Aviation Technology in Ionia, Mich.
“Having served in a role preparing missionaries to serve God’s people around the world for the past five years, I am very excited to have this new opportunity to serve the hungry, homeless and hurting here locally in Grand Rapids,” Jones said.
