Memorial Medical Center in Ludington is joining Spectrum Health and will get millions of dollars in investment as part of an effort to provide broader, more coordinated services to the region.

The agreement announced Friday by Grand Rapids-based Spectrum Health will be effective Oct. 1, pending the execution of final legal documents.

After the change, Memorial Medical Center will be known as Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital.

Under the agreement, nonprofit Spectrum Health will provide $6 million for health care initiatives to benefit the Ludington area and the hospital.

In addition, Spectrum Health plans to spend $46 million over 10 years at the hospital for upgrades and to assist in physician recruitment.

Memorial Medical Center is an 87 bed acute-care hospital with 575 employees.
