A new restaurant offering upscale “Michigan-focused” food and drinks has opened in Grand Rapids.

Black Heron Kitchen & Bar began serving customers last month at 428 Bridge St. NW.

The one story, 5,200-square-foot building it calls home was built in 1930 and most recently housed Health Motion Physical Therapy, according to city records.

Grand Rapids-based CopperRock Construction renovated the space for Black Heron.

Black Heron offers "upscale contemporary cooking, paired with a carefully sourced beer and cider list,” according to its Facebook page.

Black Heron is owned by Laura and Seth Porter, and the menu is by Executive Chef Dave VanderLaan.

Food

The restaurant’s menu features a number of brunch, dinner and dessert options: shrimp ceviche; duck pate; chorizo; mushroom poutine; vegetarian cauliflower steak; handmade sausage; fish; quail; duck; chicken; pork; and soups and salads.

Drinks

The drink menu, which includes 36 taps, features cocktails, hard ciders and Michigan-made craft beer.
