A national company has acquired a building supplier with a long history in the region.

Buffalo Grove, Illinois-based U.S. LBM Holdings said this week that it has acquired Muskegon-based Keene Lumber Co.

Keene will join LBM's Standard Companies and become a division of Grand Rapids-based Standard Supply & Lumber, a maker and distributor of building materials.

Keene Lumber Co.'s staff will remain intact, and Keene’s general manager, Kevin Kooi, will remain in charge of the company.

“We’re excited to join the team at U.S. LBM and Standard and are already looking forward to the new opportunities this partnership brings,” Kooi said.

Tim Rottschafer, president of Standard Companies, said Keene Lumber Co. has "a well-deserved reputation for excellence."

“Keene’s location in western Michigan and the high quality of products and services the company offers perfectly complements our existing portfolio of businesses,” Rottschafer said.

Keene

Keene Lumber Co. was founded in 1935 by Emir Keene and James Keene.

It is a distributor of cabinetry and hardware, decking, flooring, roofing, siding and windows.

The company also provides home remodeling, kitchen and bath design and engineering services.

Standard

Standard Companies was founded as a small fuel and feed store in Grand Rapids in 1904 by Omge Rottschafer and Kenelska Rottschafer.

In 2014, Standard joined LBM, a company founded in 2009 to acquire lumber and building supply companies, while maintaining strong local markets.
