A maker of flavors and extracts in the region hired a new CEO.
Kalamazoo-based National Flavors said Monday that it selected Brian Briggs to lead the company, effective Thursday.
Briggs succeeds Dan Hinkle, current CEO, who will transition to the board of directors.
The leadership change coincides with an investment from The Riverside Company, a New York-based private equity firm, which the Business Journal reported earlier this month.
“I am excited to welcome Brian to the team at National Flavors,” Hinkle said. “His business development skills and experience integrating acquisitions will help us to further fulfill our mission of delivering joy through flavor.”
Briggs said he is “honored” to join the team.
“I look forward to working with them to implement strategies that will leverage the strong foundation that has been built,” he said. “We will continue to be focused on providing solutions and a customer experience that allows our partners to achieve their growth expectations.”
Briggs has more than 25 years of experience helping industry-leading organizations grow through strategic planning, operational excellence and M&A, and he has led public-, private- and private equity-owned businesses.
Most recently, Briggs served as president of TIC Gums Inc., a 110-year old solutions provider of specialty ingredients.
He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in finance and economics from Cornell University and has completed executive programs through Harvard, Stanford and the Wharton School of Business.
Founded in 1941, National Flavors offers “creative flavor development” services and a portfolio of flavors for a variety of applications, including beverages, frozen desserts, baked goods, confections and processed fruits.
