A network provider is expanding a pair of its data centers to meet demand for data protection and disaster recovery services.

US Signal in Grand Rapids said that this spring it is expanding its data centers in Oak Brook, Ill. and Indianapolis.

Saturated capacity

The centers are a total of 5,600 square feet and will expand a total of 12,000 square feet to accommodate customer need, said Kim Bode, a spokesperson for US Signal.

The Oak Brook data center will add 8,000 square feet, and the Indianapolis data center will add 4,000 square feet, with facilities now equipped with more power, HVAC, monitoring and network infrastructure.

The company operates eight data centers in the Midwest.

“While we are currently on a trajectory to reach capacity at other US Signal data centers, the Oak Brook and Indianapolis locations rapidly exceeded our growth expectations and required a more immediate augment,” said Amanda Regnerus, VP of marketing, US Signal.

She said the data centers were expanded, because each location “reached saturation.”

Regnerus added that the business climate is “encouraging customers to realize and recognize the benefits of utilizing more space outside of their existing owned operating environments.”

Grand Rapids expansion

The expansion builds on the addition of a 20,000-square-foot data center US Signal built in Grand Rapids last July.

The center is “already near capacity,” and the company is looking to add another 20,000 square feet to the site in the next couple of years, said Kirk Dombek, VP of business development, US Signal.
