A nonprofit that helps residents deal with disaster situations has a new board chair and board members.
Jon Dewey, VP of private banking for Chemical Bank, took the chair role this summer for the American Red Cross of West Michigan.
Dewey has been involved with the Red Cross for many years as an active board member, serving as chair of the philanthropy committee and most recently as board vice chair.
He was originally drawn to the organization through its Restoring Family Links program, which works to reconnect families separated internationally by war, disaster or other humanitarian situations. Dewey has served on the program’s national board of directors.
Dewey said his goal as chair is to bring a greater community awareness to all five of the Red Cross’ lines of service, especially work carried out in Michigan relating to international services.
Five other members joined the volunteer board, which has a term of two years, from July 1 to June 30.
The new members were voted in by existing board members.
