A local nonprofit is opening its next retail location in the area.

Goodwill of Greater Grand Rapids will celebrate the grand opening of its new Grandville store — at 4640 Ivanrest Ave. SW, just east of RiverTown Crossings — on Oct. 1.

The location is the 22nd Goodwill store in the region.

The new store is “especially meaningful” to the nonprofit, because it is located near its main office in Grandville, said Jill Wallace, chief marketing officer, Goodwill of Greater Grand Rapids.

“We are so excited to have a retail store location in this community,” she said.

The store was constructed by Grand Rapids-based Pinnacle Construction Group and includes a drive-thru drop-off area for donations.

Revenue from the Ivanrest location will fund Goodwill job training and placement programs in the Grand Rapids market.

Free hot dogs, snacks and refreshments will be provided at the store's grand opening, courtesy of Goodwill’s Blue Spoon Catering. There also will be face painting, do-it-yourself activities and Halloween giveaways.

Shoppers can enter a drawing to win a $25 or $50 Goodwill gift card, and the first 50 shoppers will receive a special edition Goodwill 50th-anniversary tote bag.
