A local nonprofit is hosting a two-day conference on technology and data downtown this week.

Big Data Ignite 2016 will kick off on Thursday in Grand Rapids at DeVos Place.

Thursday will focus on several workshops, and Friday will feature a day of presenter-led sessions.

Sasha Issenberg, author of “The Victory Lab,” will present the keynote address on Friday.

The event is produced by the Grand Rapids-based nonprofit Big Data Ignite.

The program

Big Data Ignite 2016 begins with registration at 8 a.m. on Thursday.

The first day features three, two-part workshops on several topics: Hadoop and Spark; RStudio; and data science. Part one is a three-hour morning session, and part two begins after lunch.

Day two features sessions hosted by technology experts: consultant Samra Sulaiman on “Big Data Management”; Trevor Kagin of DellEMC on “Data Warehouse Optimization with Hadoop”; David Barnett of RightBrain Network on data analysis with Amazon Web Services; a discussion on Amazon Web Services with Mark Fei; and Brian Mullen of Steelcase on graph databases.

After the Friday morning sessions, Issenberg will deliver the keynote, where he’ll discuss the presidential race and how it compares to past campaigns, using data analytics.

Sessions will continue Friday afternoon until closing remarks, which will be followed by an after party.

Tickets

People can purchase tickets to the conference, which range from $49 to $360, online.
