A nonprofit that helps urban students connect to technology careers will host a sustainability-focused career fair next week.

The Midwest Tech Project will host the Think Green Jobs & Sustainability Careers Fair in Grand Rapids from 6-8 p.m. on April 25 at the Gerald R. Ford Academic Center, at 851 Madison Ave. SE.

Jonathan Jelks, event co-organizer and co-founder of The Midwest Tech Project, said the event aims to introduce minorities, women, millennials, college and high school graduates and workers to “the jobs and entrepreneurship opportunities of the future that are created by the green industry.”

Jelks said the event was inspired by a 2015 post by a Forbes contributor ranking Grand Rapids 51st out of 52 cities in the nation for African-American economic success. Milwaukee had a lower rating. The post was reported on by the Business Journal.

The Midwest Tech Project said tapping into the green economy can help combat the problem.
