A local senior living organization recently acquired an assisted living facility along the lakeshore.

Sunset Senior Communities on Tuesday, March 29, said it added Christian Haven Home, at 704 Pennoyer Ave. in Grand Haven, to its portfolio of assisted living communities.

Christian Haven opened in 1961 and since has focused on providing high-quality, Christ-centered care to older people in Grand Haven.

Sunset said it plans to maintain Christian Haven’s level of care and all existing employees.

“At Sunset, our expertise is in the independent living, assisted living and memory care service lines,” said Christina Matzke, Sunset president and CEO. “The opportunity to add Christian Haven to our ministry gives us a greater reach in our mission of providing quality services to seniors in the spirit of Christian love.”

With the new acquisition comes a renovation project for the lakeshore facility. The $4.5 million project is expected to begin this fall and last for a couple years.

Improvements will include updates to the phone systems, technology and elevators, as well as a new HVAC system. The shower rooms and some resident rooms also will be remodeled for better bathroom accessibility and function.

Sunset Senior Communities offers living care for a variety of health care needs and activity levels.
