The for-profit arm of an area nonprofit is partnering with a pair of national organizations to launch a matching fund initiative that will be held next week on #GivingTuesdayNow.

Spring Lake-based Do More Good said this week it is partnering with the Lincoln, Nebraska-based organizations Nonprofit Hub and Firespring to launch the Nonprofit Matching-Fund Initiative “to unite and heal communities” in tandem with #GivingTuesdayNow.

#GivingTuesdayNow is a global day of “giving and unity” that will take place May 5 as an emergency response to the needs caused by COVID-19. The organizer, GivingTuesday, is a nonprofit that hosts a day of fundraising for nonprofits each year on the Tuesday after the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday.

The Nonprofit Matching-Fund Initiative includes a national match fund pool and state-level pools for all 50 U.S. states and the District of Columbia. The initiative aims to connect thousands of nonprofits to $5 million in funding.

Through May 1, 501(c)(3) nonprofits can register to participate at no cost to their organization. The initiative is hosted on the open source Givesource.com platform that serves as the backbone for online giving days. Firespring is providing volunteer labor and is donating 100% of the platform fees to the match fund.

“The for-profit chapter of Do More Good, domoregood.com, is working to raise matching funds at the national and state levels while the nonprofit chapter, domoregood.org, is working to bring awareness to as many nonprofits as possible,” said Bill McKendry, founder and president of Do More Good.

“I developed a licensing agreement with Nonprofit Hub and Firespring for the name ‘Do More Good’ about a year ago. Through domoregood.com, businesses are encouraged and supported in their social impact work while we continue to educate and support nonprofits through domoregood.org. … This campaign is evidence of how that relationship comes together to benefit the greater good.”

The Nonprofit Matching-Fund Initiative gives nonprofits the ability to fundraise throughout May, allowing them to engage supporters beyond the official day of giving May 5.

Michigan nonprofits that have said they will participate so far include the Michigan Association of United Ways, Samaritas and Salvation Army West Michigan and Northern Indiana.

There are numerous ways to get involved with the Nonprofit Matching-Fund Initiative:
