North Monroe will get DASH bus service beginning on Dec. 10. The free shuttle service will connect the neighborhood with downtown and the Medical Mile.
Bus service will run on weekdays between 6:30 a.m. and 10 p.m. at 20-minute intervals, and will be available for the approximately 2,000 people living and working in the area.
The route extends as far north as Leonard Street and as far south as Lyon Street, and is bounded on the west by Monroe Avenue and on the east by Bostwick Avenue.
The new service is a result of partnership between the Downtown Development Authority, North Monroe Business Association and Grand Rapids Parking Services, which have all agreed to fund the service for two years, each with a $75,000 commitment.
Kristopher Larson, DDA executive director, told GRBJ previously that talks would continue with downtown businesses to try and secure future funding for the service.
