Opera Grand Rapids will present “The Marriage of Figaro” downtown this weekend.
The shows will performed at DeVos Performance Hall on May 4 and May 5 at 7:30 p.m.
The “family friendly” comedic opera, composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, is a story about underdogs’ victory over the upper class. The Count and his elitist cronies conspire to thwart the wedding of Susannah and Figaro. However, Figaro’s friends also create a plan of their own.
“There are so many subtle plots and intrigues going on that it forms a dramatic masterwork, all of it perfectly set to music,” said Garnett Bruce, stage director. “Our challenge is to bring it all clearly to life.”
The Grand Rapids Symphony orchestra will be led by Maestro James Meena, Opera Grand Rapids’ artistic director.
Tickets to “The Marriage of Figaro” start at $25 for adults and $5 for children.
They are available online or at the Grand Rapids box office, at 1320 E. Fulton St., or by calling (610) 451-2741.
The doors will open at 6:30 p.m.
