A local water packaging company has earned international recognition.
Grand Rapids-based Boxed Water was awarded bronze for most environmentally responsible company of the year by Best in Biz Awards Inc., an independent business awards program, which recognizes businesses in North America and around the world.
Boxed Water was the first national company to offer a sustainable alternative to plastic water bottles. The company is a member of 1% For The Planet and a partner with the National Forest Foundation. It also has committed to planting more than 612,000 trees in U.S. forests through its #ReTree project.
“We believe in creating a high-quality product and taking care of our planet — you don’t have to choose one or the other. That belief impacts each and every decision we make as a company,” said Daryn Kuipers, CEO of Boxed Water. “To be distinguished in the ‘Most Environmentally Responsible Company of the Year’ category is a great honor to every Boxed Water team member as recognition of our core brand ethos.”
Each year, businesses are judged by editors and reporters from top-tier business publications in North America. Entrants vary from local startups to global corporations. There were 650 entrants for the 2017 awards.
Boxed Water is headquartered in Grand Rapids and has filling locations in Michigan and Utah. Cartons are made with paper from well-managed forests. Boxed Water is available for purchase on the company’s website or on amazon.com.
