A pair of partners have launched a restaurant food delivery service to fill a gap in the market.
Saying the options through Uber Eats and Grubhub are limited to a handful of fast-food places in their town and surrounding rural areas, Daniel Jacobs and Christian Garcia launched Holland Eats this week.
“Our goal is to bring this service to Holland, and if all goes well, branch out into the other small towns of West Michigan,” Jacobs said. “Local business matters, and I appreciate everybody that gives us a chance.”
Jacobs said the main difference between Holland Eats and the national delivery companies is its focus on solution-focused and personal customer service instead of credits.
He also said Holland Eats has the ability to offer a wider range of restaurant choices because of its business model.
“We can offer any restaurant we choose to,” Jacobs said. “Uber Eats and Grubhub charge the restaurants they deliver for the service. Since we add the service charge to the food total, we don’t really need permission from the restaurant.”
How it works
Holland Eats deliveries are available to customers who live or work in the ZIP codes 49423, 49424 and 49464.
Customers can create an account and order online at hollandeats.com or via the Holland Eats iPhone and Android apps.
The company so far has posted about 35 menus from 30 area restaurants.
To order, customers can enter their ZIP code, address and delivery time in the “Deliver to this address” field.
Then, they can pick a restaurant from the list and compile their order.
After customers pay by credit card — with an option to split the check across two or more credit cards — Holland Eats promises to deliver the food within 30 to 60 minutes, or an hour or more if the order includes food from multiple restaurants.
The list price on the menus includes a service fee of up to 20 percent of the food total.
There is also a $3.99 delivery fee that covers the first five miles from the restaurant. A $1 per mile pro-rated distance fee applies after five miles.
Holland Eats has hired about 10 drivers so far and is looking for more.
“We understand not all drivers can work all shifts — that this job isn’t going to be for everybody — so we will always accept applications,” Jacobs said.
The service is available from 10 a.m.-10 p.m. daily.
The business said it will notify customers of any holiday closures on its Facebook page and its website.
