A pair of partners are planning to open an American-style restaurant along the Grand River downtown.

Linear, a “modern” restaurant, will anchor The Homes at River’s Edge in Grand Rapids, at 1001 Monroe Ave. NW, according to Orion Real Estate Services, part of Grand Rapids-based Orion Construction, yesterday.

The $10.5-million, mixed-use development features 32 apartments.

Linear plans to open within the coming months.

The restaurant is hiring to fill around 30 full- and part-time positions.

Linear will occupy 3,500 square feet on the ground floor and overlook the Grand River. The restaurant will feature an outdoor patio for waterfront dining and a seasonal menu.

The restaurant is co-owned by Chris Weimer and Todd Hoort. Weimer, also executive chef for Linear, is an award-winning chef formerly at Brewery Vivant. Hoort is the owner of Lafayette House Bed and Breakfast.

“We have a passion for hospitality and an understanding of what a dining experience can be for our guests through our history in the bed and breakfast and restaurant businesses,” Hoort said.

Weimer said the partners are creating a menu “around local, seasonal, sustainably grown and harvested produce and meats.”

The restaurant will also offer delivery service for River’s Edge residents.

With the addition of Linear, all retail space at River’s Edge is now fully leased.

Orion also recently started pre-leasing the development’s apartments through Colliers International West Michigan.
