An upcoming chili cook-off, live blues and beer event downtown is aimed at raising funds for skin cancer research.
The sixth-annual Chilly, Blues & Brews is set to run from 1 p.m. on March 24 to 2 a.m. on March 25 at The B.O.B. in Grand Rapids, at 20 Monroe Ave. NW.
More than 50 teams of people will compete in a chili cook-off and hot pepper-eating contest, and the event will also feature live blues, Michigan craft beer and more.
Each entry in the chili cook-off must incorporate a Michigan craft beer as one of the ingredients.
The winner of the chili cook-off will receive $1,000 in prizes, funded by The Gilmore Collection, and the 2018 Golden Ladle Trophy.
Teams can also win awards in various categories, such as the best vegetarian/vegan chili, spiciest chili and best-dressed team.
Attendees may purchase chili samples during the cook-off for 50 cents apiece.
A portion of the proceeds from all tasting sales will benefit skin cancer research through the MSU Gran Fondo.
1 p.m.: chili tasting (open to the public)
3 p.m.: hot chili pepper-eating contest (18 and older)
Noon to 2 a.m.: live music at H.O.M.E., B.O.B.’s Brewery, Bobarino’s and Eve
