A performing arts and event space in the region has named a new executive director.

The Frauenthal Center in downtown Muskegon said last week it hired Eric Messing for the role.

The center houses the Frauenthal Theater and Beardsley Theater, as well as rentable event and office spaces.

Messing said his main objective is to work toward the organization’s overall vision of being the area’s "dynamic, historic center for community enrichment that inspires public engagement, sparks economic vitality and reflects the community we serve.”

“The Frauenthal Center is an impressive facility with an outstanding team, and I look forward to working together, along with Muskegon, toward our future growth and success,” he said.

Messing has had several roles with multiple theater companies in Michigan and New York, including executive director of Broadway Grand Rapids and marketing director of Circle Theatre Grand Rapids.

He has also served on the board of directors for Actors’ Theatre Grand Rapids, Circle Theatre Grand Rapids and the Wayne State University College of Fine, Performing and Communication Arts Alumni Association.

Messing received a bachelor’s degree in communication from Aquinas College in 2001 and a master’s degree in arts management from Wayne State University in 2007.
