A physician network has relocated one of its offices at the lakeshore to serve a growing community.

Primary care

Mercy Health Physician Partners, the primary care and specialty physician network affiliated with Mercy Health, said last month that it has opened the Norris Creek primary care practice in Fruitport, at 14 N. 3rd Ave.

The practice will provide comprehensive services for area residents of all ages, including preventative care, chronic disease visits and acute care.

Jill Venne, clinic manager at the Norris Creek primary care office, said the practice offers various services from minor testing to specialty care and transition of care.

“We service patients from the newborn age to the elderly,” Venne said.

The Norris Creek practice is comprised of Dr. Diane Parrett, nurse practitioner Dee Six and nurse practitioner Virginia Downey. The team had previously offered services at the network's Kinney and Parrett office in Muskegon, which has been relocated to the Norris Creek site.

In town, the physician network also operates Fruitport Family Medicine, a family primary care practice.

Fruitport market

One of the reasons for opening the practice in Fruitport was to provide patients continued care after another physician passed away, said Colleen Flynn, senior director of the primary care network, Mercy Health Physician Partners.

“We didn’t want to leave those patients without that option,” Flynn said. “For years, they had that stable practice there in Fruitport, and so we wanted to make sure we were able to offer an option for them.”

Flynn said maintaining a presence in Fruitport is important, considering the growing demand for primary care in the area as the population grows, the visibility of the area and the shift of perspective on primary care physicians as the true coordinator of quality care.

“We wanted to make sure we were maintaining a presence, because of the population growth that is expected to occur in that particular market over the next few years,” Flynn said. “We need make sure we are filling and meeting the needs of the community in that area.”

Mercy Health

Mercy Health Physician Partners has approximately 500 physicians and advanced health care providers and is part of the Mercy Health system, which is a regional health ministry of CHE Trinity Health.

The health care system includes five hospitals, 58 physician offices, home health and long-term care services in the region.
