An oral surgery practice is hosting a free informational and scholarship event for aspiring medical professionals this weekend.

Mark Jesin of Advanced Oral Surgery and Dental Implant Studio will host the first-annual Academic Advantage event, where students will learn about the medical field and receive tips on pursuing next steps.

Besides Jesin, the event will feature several other speakers: neurosurgeon Dr. Justin Singer; orthopedic surgeon Nicole Grode, PA-C; obstetrician-gynecologist Dr. Robyn Hubbard; and Lindsey Hansen, assistant director of admissions, Aquinas College.

Local colleges and nonprofits will offer internship, volunteer and job-shadowing opportunities.

Two students in attendance will be awarded $1,000 scholarships, and one will receive a $500 scholarship.

The event will be held on March 23 from 9-11:30 a.m. at Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park in Grand Rapids. Food will be provided.

Registration is required.
