The region’s private colleges and universities are canceling classes and/or shifting to distance learning for a time due to the COVID-19 outbreak in Michigan.
Here is a list of all of the private colleges and universities that so far have announced responses to the pandemic:
Aquinas College: Spring break is extended one week (March 16-20). Beginning Monday, March 23 through at least Friday, April 24, all classes will shift to distance learning. On-campus and college-sponsored events with more than 100 people will be canceled through at least April 24.
Baker College: The majority of on-campus lecture classes will be suspended and move to an online format effective Monday, March 16. Lab courses, clinical courses and internships/externships will continue in their current on-campus format. College-sponsored events with more than 50 people are postponed for “the foreseeable future.”
Calvin University: Effective March 16, classroom instruction will be moved online. In-person learning will tentatively resume starting Tuesday, April 14. Effective March 16 through April 13, all on-campus events of more than 100 attendees are suspended.
Cornerstone University: Classes are canceled Friday, March 13 and will be held in a fully online format March 16 through April 14.
Davenport University: Classes are canceled Friday, March 13 and March 16. All in-person classes will resume online on Tuesday, March 17, as of an update from the college Thursday, March 12.
Hope College: Spring break runs March 13 through March 23. Classes will shift to remote learning March 23 through April 13. College-sponsored spring break trips are canceled, and all on-campus events are canceled through April 13.
Kuyper College: Friday, March 13 through Wednesday, March 18, all classes are canceled. Beginning Thursday, March 19 through Friday, April 3, students will complete their course work online. By Monday, March 30, the college will determine if the online format will need to be extended. March 13 through April 3, all on-campus activities and events will be postponed or canceled. Beginning March 16, on-campus events organized by outside groups also will be canceled through April 3.
