Grand Rapids has a chance to claim the BeerCity, U.S.A. title outright in May, but Michigan is pushing to be the No. 1 beer state, as well.
Pure Michigan has teamed up with Founders Brewing Co. to pick a Founders beer style that best represents Pure Michigan.
The beer will be picked based on a fan vote.
The chosen beer will be on tap in the Founders taproom throughout July as part of Michigan Craft Beer Month.
The public vote
Through May 3, voters can choose between Vanilla Stout, Apple Ale and Wheat IPA for the beer that best represents Michigan. Individuals can vote once a day during the contest and must be 21.
The winning beer style will be announced in May.
Michigan has more than 120 breweries, which ranks it fifth in the nation, and the craft beer industry grew by 20 percent last year or 12 percent more than the national rate.
“Michigan has a thriving craft beer industry that is building on our tourism efforts by offering visitors unique flavors and memorable experiences,” said George Zimmermann, vice president of Travel Michigan, part of the state's Michigan Economic Development Corp. “Founders is a vibrant and growing company here in Michigan, and we are excited to work with them on this fun, beer-inspired contest.”
