A local restaurant company with locations in various states has a new vice president to oversee the strategic direction of its real estate.

Grand Rapids-based Meritage Hospitality Group promoted Doug Poland from director of real estate to vice president of real estate, according to the company this month.

“Doug has been critical to our continued growth and success and is a valuable member of our leadership team,” said Gary Rose, president, Meritage Hospitality Group. “We are excited to elevate his opportunity to drive real estate strategies and execution through our next phase of growth.”

In his new role, Poland will oversee all company real estate-related assets, including strategic planning, leasing, contracts and construction.

He also will play a key role in the overall strategic direction of the company.

Poland joined Meritage in 2013 as director of real estate. In the role, Meritage said he “brought structure and strategy” to the company’s “growing portfolio of restaurants and real estate holdings.”

Previously, Poland was a real estate attorney at the Grand Rapids-based law firm McShane & Bowie, where he focused on commercial real estate and related businesses and represented publicly traded and privately held companies in the real estate and retail industries. There, Poland gained experience in development, acquisition, sales and leasing.

He holds a B.S. in computer science from Michigan State University and a J.D. from Wayne State University.
