A West Side restaurant is closing following 39 years of operation.
Shawmut Inn, 2802 Lake Michigan Drive in Standale, announced on Facebook it will close Aug. 10.
Shawmut Inn is a neighborhood restaurant serving up a variety of menu items ranging from Mexican food to burgers and sandwiches. It is widely known throughout the area for its burritos.
According to the post, a new bar and restaurant will be opening in October with a new owner.
From 1973 until 1978 the location was Szot’s Corner Inn Tavern. The current iteration of the restaurant began in 1978 when Ron Raczkiewicz and Bruno “Ed” Stone bought the tavern. Raczkiewicz died in 2004, leaving his wife, Pam, and Stone as the operators of Shawmut Inn.
“It saddens us to inform you that Shawmut Inn will be closing August 10th, 2017,” Shawmut Inn’s Facebook post said. “Thank you for a fantastic 39 years. It was our privilege to be a part of the community and we greatly appreciate all the years you have allowed us to serve you.”
