A local restaurateur is planning to open a new restaurant in Grand Rapids.

David Reinert is planning to develop Butcher’s Union, at 436 Bridge St. NW — the site of the former nightclub Monte’s.

Reinert owns Rockwell's Kitchen & Tap, Republic and O'Toole's Public House, all in Grand Rapids, and the former Monte's.

The Bridge Street project would include renovations to transform the former nightclub into a restaurant and remove a portion of roof in the rear to create a courtyard, according to a city application.

Designs for the restaurant were by Grand Rapids-based Concept Design.

Outdoor seating

Reinert’s application requests two outdoor seating areas requiring a Special Land Use approval by the Grand Rapids Planning Commission. The meeting is Thursday afternoon.

Reinert requests a 20-seat area on the Bridge Street sidewalk and a 44-seat rear courtyard.

A Special Land Use is required when a proposed outdoor seating area is within 300 feet of residential use or not in or adjacent to a public right-of-way.
