Bridge Street Market will launch its new Bring Your Own Bag program on Earth Day, April 22.

As of April 22, the market at 405 Seward Ave. SW in Grand Rapids no longer will provide free paper or plastic bags at checkout. The program aims to raise awareness and cut down on single-use plastics.

Bridge Street Market asks shoppers to bring their own reusable bags from home when they shop. The market will sell recycled plastic bags for 10 cents or $1, depending on size and percentage of recycled materials.

Bridge Street Market also encourages shoppers to contribute to sustainable living by providing recycling bins at the entrance of the store where grocery bags, produce wrap, newspaper sleeves, packaging air pillows, food storage bags, cereal liners and other plastic products can be recycled.
