A family-owned grocery company in southern and West Michigan received an award from a national supermarket chain.

Leppink’s Group was recognized as Save A Lot’s Retail Partner of the Year during Save A Lot’s annual meeting and food show.

The award is given to partners who demonstrate “outstanding results” across the business, including growth in sales and customer metrics, community involvement, team engagement and a commitment to the Save A Lot brand image.

“Day-in and day-out, the Leppink’s team is striving for excellence, and it shows,” said Leon Bergmann, CEO of Save A Lot. “They are a best-in-class operator that we are proud to have on our team.”

Leppink’s owns and operates six Save A Lot locations, which recently were updated to improve the in-store shopper experience.

The group was specifically honored for its ability to effectively run stores and its drive to create an inclusive work environment.

“It means a lot to our team to be recognized for the hard work and inclusive culture we work to create every day in our stores,” said John Leppink, store owner. “We know that working together helps us not only achieve great sales results, but more importantly, to serve our communities the best we can.”

Looking ahead, the group said it plans to remodel all six Save A Lot locations by the end of July.

Leppink’s also operates its own food centers in Belding, Dorr, Ferrysburg, Newaygo, Howard City, Lakeview and Stanton.
